Saim Sadiq’s ‘Joyland’ has been officially nominated by Pakistan in the race for the 95th Academy Awards.
The Pakistan Oscar Selection Committee has nominated for the ‘International Feature Film Award’ category.
Committee chairperson Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy said in a statement. “We are sending our best film to compete at the Academy Awards.
“Film gives us hope that Pakistani cinema is finally making its way to the world stage.
‘Joyland’ premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France this year. Where it received a great reception and the film received two awards at the Cannes Festival , “Jury Award” and “Queer Palm”.
The film is based on a fiction story that highlights the life of transgenders, while the cast of Joyland includes Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, Alina Khan and Sarwat Gillani.
